'Blasting'

Photographs of the construction blasting yesterday (May 17th) that closed the west end of the runway of the Ketchikan International Airport. The runway was closed for about 15 minutes to remove debris. These photographs were captured from video.

A new west taxiway is under construction and the blasting is a part of the project. The rock is used in the construction of the new west taxiway.

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities awarded the contract for the building of an addition taxiway at the west end of the runway. The taxiway project will eliminate the need for aircraft to "back-taxi" when they land on the "29" runway or take off on the "11" runway.
