Following the proclamation, Cynthia Carlson a survivor of domestic violence shared her personal story of surviving violence. Several members of the gathering, both men and women shared their personal stories. W.I.S.H. Education/Prevention Program Coordinator, Sheirty Kelly addressed the gathering with her remarks "Putting an end to domestic violence is a long road. As we journey down that road those among us tonight already have the tools of experience. It is through us, the survivors, as we share our stories we also renew our dedication and commitment to work together to end the violence." The evening ended with a candlelight ceremony as each person lit a candle in remembrance of a friend or relative that had died as a result of violence and in celebration of those who had survived.
Women In Safe Homes is celebrating it's 25th annual membership meeting and election of board of directors on Wednesday, October 30th, at 6:00 pm at the Ketchikan Resource Center located on the third floor of the Westflight Building. The public is invited to attend.
