The Alaska Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant & Retailers Association
(CHARR) released the winners of the 2002 CHARR Convention Raffle
which was held on October 3, 2002, during their annual convention
held in Ketchikan. The drawing of tickets lasted approximately
4 hours.

CHARR's grand prize was a 1957
Thunderbird with over $10,000 in cash prizes awarded. Lucky folks
from around the state - including Ketchikan - made the winners
list.

3,000 tickets were sold around
the state at $25.00 each or 5 for $100. The Seller of the Winning
Ticket received $1,000.
Prizes were awarded by the
sequence number in which the ticket was drawn:
Tickets # 1, 500, 1000, 1500, & 2000 awarded $500.00...
Ticket 2500 awarded $1,000.00...
Every 25th ticket starting at 2501 awarded $100.00...
Every 100th ticket starting at and including 2600 awarded $500.00...
Ticket #2999 awarded $2,000.00...
Ticket #3000 awarded the Grand Prize the T-Bird...
Robert Heym of Anchorage held
the last and 3000th ticket drawn and was the winner of the grand
prize, a 1957 Thunderbird.
Dick Kauffman of Ketchikan
held the next to the last, the 2999th ticket drawn and was the
winner of the $2,000 cash prize.
When contacted by George Tipton
Wednesday morning and informed he was only one ticket away from
winning the Grand Prize T-Bird and was the second place winner
of $2,000, Kauffman said, "You've got to be kidding!"
He said the lesson to be learned here is that sometimes it does
pay to come in last - or nearly last.
