Ketchikan International Airport Terminal Renovation Begins

The Ketchikan Airport terminal project began Monday, October 7th. McGraw Construction of Sitka is the prime contractor. This remodel involves bringing the bathrooms into compliance

with current ADA standards, replacement of both the main and west terminal doors, a new elevator to the second floor, replacement of the bag belt, expansion of the second floor and relocation of the Airport Lounge and Snackbar, as well as numerous, less visible changes. Funding for the project is through locally assessed passenger facilitity charges.

According to KIA business manager Lance Mertz, the traveling public's patience and cooperation is requested during this time. In return, the airport management will do everything in its power to lessen disruption during the work.

Demolition of the first floor bathrooms will begin soon. The second floor bathrooms will be available for everyone while the first floor restrooms are rebuilt. North entrance work will also begin, requiring that the door be unavailable for use.
