Jay Hammond Coming To Town
Legendary Figure Embarks on Trip to Spread Fran Ulmer Message

October 07, 2002
Monday - 11:00 am

Former Governor Jay Hammond sets out Monday, October 7, on a three-day trip to campaign on behalf of Candidate for Governor Fran Ulmer. Hammond, Alaska's last Republican governor (1974-1982) is the Co-Chairman of Fran Ulmer's campaign for governor.

Hammond has been an outspoken advocate of protecting the Permanent Fund dividend program and he has offered insight and advice to Ulmer in the development of her plan to solve the state's fiscal gap.

"Fran Ulmer believes, as I do, Permanent Fund earnings should be protected by requiring a vote of the people before the legislature can use the earnings that pay dividends to fund state services," Hammond said. "I fear Frank Murkowski's lack of a realistic fiscal plan puts us on a crash course right into those earnings."

Jay Hammond will visit the communities of Ketchikan, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Local events include:

Ketchikan, Monday - October 7

  • 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Book signing at Parnassas Books
  • 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Community reception at IBEW Union Hall
