I am a strong supporter of the bond issue for the new pool. I have been an active user of the pool since it was built and have seen how broad=based the activities there are. Just the other day I saw the pool utilized by mothers and fathers with infants, a crew from a cruiseship doing lifeboat training, physical therapy for young adults to older adults, and the school swim teams. This was just a portion of the day!

The following have used the pool so far this year:

School District
Swim Teams
Swim lessons: Approximately 950 kids and adults
Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts
FAA
Ketchikan Police and Fire Depts
Cruise Lines
State of Alaska-Alaska Marine Highway
University of Alaska
US Coast Guard
Arthritis Foundation
Masters Swim Club
Ketchikan General Hospital
Ketchikan Indian Community
Pioneer Home
Private and Occupational Physical Therapy
Wind and Water Scuba Training
Community Connections
Ketchikan and Saxman Headstart
Ketchikan Divers Assoc.
ORCA/SAIL
Over 80 private rentals: Birthday parties, group gatherings, etc.
PACE Home School Program
Private Schools
Alaska State Troopers
Total: Over 86,000 user visits per year! That is correct: 86,000, or 235 users per day, average.

The beauty of the funding for the pool bond is that it will not increase anyone's taxes. It is paid out of the 1/2 cent sales tax collected for just this type of recreation facility. This method successfully paid for the Recreation Center. Through this method, the visitors that come to our community help us pay for it! User fees also help pay for its use.

In short, the pool provides opportunities for every age and encourages healthy activities that allow users access to better health, recreation, family time, structured training, and career opportunities. The new pool will do even more!

Please join me in supporting the bond for the new pool.
