Ketchikan - Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) announced on Thursday that James Horton who was hired by KIC in October of 2002 to be the General Manager has resigned. As General Manager, Horton reported to the elected Tribal Council.

In a news release Thursday KIC wrote, "As can and does happen in probationary employment situations, the goals and objectives of employee and employer did not precisely match up when the tryout period ended. As a result, there was mutual consent that a suitably harmonious relationship was not possible. Subsequently, Mr. Horton resigned from KIC voluntarily on Friday, April 25th."

According to information provided by KIC, in his letter of resignation, Horton spoke very favorably of KIC and the Tribe's future endeavors, and expressed a desire to return to his home in Yakima, Washington.

The KIC Tribal Council named David Landis, Deputy General Manager, as the Interim General Manger. A Search Committee of the Tribal Council has been established by President Stephanie Rainwater-Sande to structure a new recruitment for the Manager's position.
