Juneau - Governor Frank Murkowski on Wednesday appointed Ed Dersham to a third 3-year term on the Board of Fisheries ending June 30, 2006, and Dr. Fred Bouse to a term also ending June 30, 2006. Dersham has been the board chairman since 2001.

"I am pleased to be able to reappoint Ed Dersham to the board, because he understands the need to manage our fisheries for the good of all Alaskans," Murkowski said. "I appreciate the hard work and dedication he has given to the board, especially as its chairman, and know that his depth of knowledge on controversial fisheries issues will continue to play a key role in the board's work.

"Fred Bouse maintains a regional balance to the board, as he will be the sole member from the Interior on the board. He has been a guide on the Gulkana River and has been actively involved in sportfishing issues that affect Interior Alaska. I know he will make decisions for the resource based on the best science."

Dersham was first appointed to the board by former Governor Tony Knowles in March 1997 and reappointed in March 2000. He owns a fishing lodge at Anchor Point and is a licensed charter boat captain. From 1971-1985, Dersham was a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Agency in San Diego and Anchorage. He has a bachelor of business administration from the University of Oregon. In addition to serving on the Board of Fisheries, Dersham serves as Chairman of the Joint Protocol Committee for the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council.

Bouse has been a dentist in Fairbanks since 1976. He has an undergraduate degree in chemistry, with a minor in biology, graduated from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry in 1973 and came to Alaska with the military at Ft. Wainwright. Bouse was an active public member of the Copper River Management Work Group for a number of years, and authored many management proposals to the Board of Fisheries, appearing at and participating in many board meetings.
