![]() PFD Application Now Available, Other Services to Follow March 26, 2003
"This is the State's first
application of electronic signatures for citizens," said
Miller. "myAlaska.gov allows Alaskans to sign up for their
PFD without having to mail in any form. It is an example of a
program that makes government more efficient, and more responsive." "Citizens want assurances that their online transactions are secure, and they want the process to be easy to use. And security and ease-of-use are the two main priorities with this project," said ITG Acting Director Stan Herrera. "This system will provide added security to information that residents submit to the state, and will protect and archive the online transactions that are conducted. And by tying many future systems to this one sign-in portal, myAlaska.gov will make the state's web transactions easier to use." Commissioner Miller stressed the efficiencies that will be seen as the system grows. "We want to avoid the situation of individual agencies 'reinventing the wheel' as they bring services online," Miller said. "The myAlaska.gov login becomes the basic infrastructure that future applications can use, and agencies can concentrate their efforts on the unique parts of their applications. And because we have built this using high levels of security, it is truly a case where 'less is more'." Herrera said that the security features of the new system are expandable to future needs. "The myAlaska.gov sign-in process is based on data security industry best-practices," said Herrera. "We foresee the ability for people to acquire even higher levels of security clearance in the future -- as applications in the fields of health, law enforcement and business, among others, come online." Citizen questions during enrollment
will be handled by ITG's help center. The myAlaska.gov system
can be accessed from the State's website at http://www.state.ak.us
or directly by going to https://myalaska.state.ak.us
