Steve Brown Teaches History of Northwest Coast Art

Ketchikan, Alaska - Visiting instructor Steve Brown will teach History of Northwest Coast Art at the Totem Heritage Center March 31 - April 11, 2003.

Brown will discuss the development of Northwest Coast Native art by using slides, historical texts, photographs and artifacts from the Ketchikan Museums collection. This class is a must for anyone who works with Northwest Coast Native art seasonally or year-round, or has an interest in learning more about this centuries-old art form. It is also a requirement for the Totem Heritage Center Certificate of Merit.

Brown, a respected carver from Sequim, Washington, is the author of Native Visions: Evolution in Northwest Coast Art from the Eighteenth through the Twentieth Century. He has taught a wide variety of classes at the Totem Heritage Center over the last two decades. Brown's Northwest Coast Silver Engraving I class, which is being offered at the Totem Heritage Center April 1 - 12, 2003, is already full.
