Friday - 12:05 am

Unwind, relax and rejuvenate at the First Annual Focus on Living Women's Wellness Conference set for March 7-8, 2003 at the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan.

According to information provided by the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan, the goal of this conference is for women to take time to reflect on their life goals and learn new skills and techniques to energize and rejuvenate themselves. It will also offer a networking opportunity for women interested in similar topics.

The conference begins on Friday, March 7 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Northwest speaker Millie Stultz's presentation "Recipe For Living" will encourage and guide participants to find the special ingredients and spices that add zest to their life. Millie Stultz is certified in Energy Medicine, Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Touch for Health, Shiatsu, Educational Kinesiology and Chinese Energetic Healing. She has taught classes, seminars, and published a magazine on personal and professional development and success. She has a broad background that includes commercial real estate, fishing, advertising sales, training and marketing. Millie started the first professional woman's club in Seattle in 1977 as well as a Toastmaster club titled "Success Masters", named after her magazine "Northwest Success".

On Saturday, March 8, participants will have a full day of workshops to attend. The day is broken into four sessions, each offering four different and unique workshops. Workshops include health topics like menopause and cardiovascular disease; practical topics including financial decisions, budgeting and cooking light; educational topics including advise on massage therapy, complimentary medicine, friendship networks, forgiveness, the Women's Movement and keys to diffusing stress; as well as a host of hands-on workshops in journaling, vision collage, yoga, and much more.

A special lunch celebrating International Women's Day will include international travel roundtable discussions. Participants are encouraged to bring their scrapbooks of places they have traveled.

For the first time in Ketchikan, a labyrinth walk will be available to participants all day Saturday. A labyrinth walk is designed to be a meditation. Labyrinths are different from mazes in that mazes offer a choice of paths, some with many entrances and exits. Labyrinths, on the other hand, have one well-defined path that leads us into the center and back out again.

Early registration for this conference is open through February 28 and costs $65.00. Late registration will be taken through the first night of the conference and is $80.00. Participants will receive continuing education units for this conference.

The conference is cosponsored by Ketchikan Indian Corporation.

The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan provides a wide variety of educational courses and programs to Ketchikan and the surrounding communities throughout the year. Many course offerings are available both locally and through distance avenues including web-based, audio conference, teleconference and satellite offerings. Through these offerings, students can achieve certificate, associate, bachelor and master degrees.
