Ketchikan, AK - In anticipation of the Gathering of Alaskan Basket Makers, the Totem Heritage Center invites the public to enjoy a pair of weaving videos on Saturday, March 1, 2003, at 2 p.m.

The first video is "Haida Basketry," a 30-minute video featuring internationally known Haida weavers Delores Churchill and her mother, Selina Peratrovich. Churchill touches on the differences between Tsimshian, Tlingit and Haida weaving, and talks about the different basket styles and usages. Peratrovich relates the traditional story of the first Haida basket, speaking in her Native language with subtitles.

The second video contains a brief segment featuring Peratrovich on the television show Tundra View. Dressed in traditional regalia, Peratrovich discusses Haida basketry and weaving materials with the show's host. Peratrovich was widely recognized as a Haida culture bearer through her basketry.

For more information about this free event, call the Totem Heritage Center at 225-5900.
